The History of the Province of Moray


'The History of the Province of Moray' is a book written by Lachlan Shaw and re-published over three volumes in 1882. The volumes contain the history comprising the counties of Moray, Elgin, Nairn, the greater part of the county of Inverness and a portion of the county of Banff, all called the province of Moray before there was a division into different counties.

As the province of Moray is where the Ogston name originated there are numerous references to

the Ogston family and the Ogston lands throughout all volumes of this book. The spelling varies due to the literary and spelling styles of the times that these were recorded however they all refer to the same family and areas of land. Changes in spelling throughout these books may be as follows; Ogston, Oguestown, Ogueftown, Hogstoune, Ogstoun, etc.
