The ancestors of the Ogston family name are believed to be descended from the Pictish race. This ancient race are believed to have inhabited Scotland since at least the 5th century BC.

Often regarded as savage warriors, the Picts were actually one of Scotland's earliest civilizations with a sophisticated culture and a long history.

Research into the genetic origins of Scots found that 10 percent of Scottish men are directly descended from the Picts.
