Edward during World War 2

Edward Oliphant Ogston joined the Gordon Highlanders in 1939 while still a teenager. From the Gordon Highlanders he then volunteered for airborne forces (Parachute Regiment).

Private Ogston was on parachute training course 34 at RAF Ringway (Manchester, England). It ran from 22nd October 1942 until 27th October 1942.

It was while in training at Lark Hill, Salisbury Plain that he met Hilda who was serving in the ATS. They returned to Aberdeen to be married in the family's Presbyterian Church, before deploying for war.

During the war Edward served overseas in North Africa, Italy, Greece, and Palestine.

The war over, they settled in Irlam, Manchester, where Hilda's family originated. This is where they raised their family with many children and grand-children.

Edward passed away in October of 1997.
